Johnny Ball's Funtastic Maths for Year 7 & 8 Students.

Johnny Ball

On Wednesday 26th November the famous Johnny Ball came to talk to 380 Gumley students.
Gumley’s maths department has embarked on a new curriculum for KS3 maths which is project based, made up of a number of modules which looks at elements from Maths Magic, Investigate The World to Theme Park construction so it is addressing maths learning via a more rounded approach.
Johnny Ball’s fantastic maths challenge supports this learning perfectly. Additionally, our Head of Maths, Pietro Tozzi, has been instrumental in working with EDEXCEL (the U.K.’s largest examining board) providing talks to other schools and advice on material that can be used to help them as they implement this new maths curriculum. He said: ‘’ Over the past few years our maths department has become the flagship department for our school. The reason why is our improvement from 59% A* to C to 85% A* to C since switching over to the Edexcel modular GCSE.’’
Johnny Ball's shows were renowned for presenting scientific and technological principles in an entertaining and accessible way for young people. He talks to students of all ages from primary school right through to universities but he is also often involved with various industry organizations too. It all kicks off at 9.00 for Year 7 students and then 11.00 AM for Year 8 students.
